DAVID GILLILAND

ABOUT ME
A highly regarded collaborative pianist, David Gilliland frequently performs with a diverse array of soloists and chamber ensembles. He has accompanied both the Sphinx and William C. Byrd Competitions, and been a convention pianist for the National Flute Association in 2014 and 2017. Commercial recordings of his include the complete wind compositions of Henri Dutilleux, and the low brass works of Robert Denham.

David joined the Davidson College Music Department as Artist Associate of Accompanying in 2014. In addition to accompanying the Davidson Chorale and Chorale Arts Society, he has been a faculty sponsor for two Davidson Research Initiative grant recipients, preparing students to study, perform and record the respective song cycles Dichterliebe by Robert Schumann and Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson by Aaron Copland.

Previously, he was a University of Michigan Wind Departmental pianist and accompanist for the Michigan Men’s Glee Club, prominently featured on their tours to Cuba, China and throughout the United States. He has also served as the Director of Accompanying at Albion College, and was the Collaborative Piano Coordinator for the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. David holds graduate degrees in accompanying from the Eastman School of Music (M.M.) and the University of Minnesota (D.M.A.); his primary teachers include Jean Barr, Margo Garrett and Karl Paulnack.
